The 21st of January will see the transfer of postal voting ballots to the Department of Posts


Colombo (News 1st) – The Election Commission says the secure envelopes containing the postal ballots for the local government election will be handed over to the post offices on the 21st of March.

Saman Sri Ratnayake, Commissioner General for Elections, says that postal voting will be conducted in March.

According to the Election Commission, the District Reterning Officers will issue the extraordinary gazette relating to the holding of the local government elections on April 25th.

Meanwhile, the Government printer states that they are going to write a letter to Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Wednesday (8) to request funds for preliminary printing of ballot papers.

According to the Government Printer it will take over 400 million Rupees to print.

She also stated that the Finance Ministry’s response will determine if the ballot paper printing process can be resumed.

According to the Government Printer, they will ask the Inspector General Police to increase security for printing ballot papers.

They also noticed that postal voting ballot papers had been printed in 17 of the districts.
